Safer Recruitment

At Schools Out, we implement a rigorous recruitment process to ensure that all staff members are thoroughly vetted and suitable for working with children. Our recruitment procedures are designed to identify and select individuals who not only have the right skills and qualifications but also share our commitment to safeguarding.

All job offers are contingent upon receiving two satisfactory references from previous employers or educators and completing a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. If the references or DBS check do not meet our stringent standards, the offer of employment will be rescinded.

Once on board, our staff members undergo regular performance evaluations and are provided with additional training as needed. This ensures that our team consistently upholds the highest standards of safeguarding, providing a safe and nurturing environment for all children at our camps.

Our experienced staff are experts at helping new campers feel welcome and confident, quickly making new friends. After their fantastic first day, they’ll be eager to return the next morning, ready for more fun! Parents are welcome to contact the Camp manager during the day to check on their child’s progress.

  • We understand how unpredictable British weather can be! That’s why we have a diverse and exciting wet weather plan to keep the fun going with minimal disruption to the schedule. While some outdoor activities may need to be adjusted, we’ll do our best to reschedule them for later in the week to ensure every child has a great time, rain or shine.

  • Friends or family members that have been authorised by you to collect your child from camp are able to collect. We ask that all parents/ family members collecting children bring the unique booking ID number when collecting, in order to confirm that they are authorised to collect.

  • At Schools Out, we prioritize safety and do our best to prevent any accidents. However, we have fully trained first aiders on site to handle minor injuries swiftly. If your child has a more significant incident, you’ll be notified immediately, and in rare cases of serious accidents, we will contact emergency services. Should your child become unwell while at camp, we’ll ensure they’re as comfortable as possible, but they may need to be picked up early, as we are not equipped to provide extended care for sick children. We ask that any child who falls ill at camp remains at home until they are fully recovered and symptom-free for at least 24 hours.

  • Timetables are finalized a week before camp to accommodate last-minute bookings, weather changes, and varying attendance. While we don't publish these timetables on our website, we're happy to email you a copy for your child's group if you'd like to see it. The sample timetables we provide are from previous seasons and offer a good idea of the activities your child can expect.

  • Children need to bring a packed lung and drink bottle each day. Please be aware that children on camp may have nut allergies - so we have a nut free policy at camp.

  • This depends on the age of the children:

    • 4 - 6 year olds are in groups of 16 with 1 instructor per 8 children maximum.

    • 7 - 9 year olds are in groups of 14 maximum with 1 instructor

    • 10-11 year olds are in groups of 16 maximum with 1 instructor

  • As usual, clothing should be comfortable and appropriate for a variety of activities (including sports). In cooler or wet weather please ensure your child has an appropriate jacket as we do like to give children lots of fresh air fun!

  • You should limit the number of items your child brings to camp with them this season. The only items needed are:

    • A healthy packed lunch and refillable water bottle

    • A clean pair of non-marking indoor shoes (if applicable)

    • Hat / Sun Cream in hot weather

    • Outdoor coat suitable for the weather

    • A reading book for extended day if your child prefers a quieter start/end to the day

    • Medication (if applicable)

    • Coats and bags will be kept together by group, and additional items such as toys, games, and gadgets should not be brought to camp.

  • If you become aware that your child has left something behind at the end of the day, please either call us or drop an email and we will do our very best to locate and return any items.
